WAYS TO SERVE
School Building Coordinator—we are looking for a person(s) who enjoy design and creating warm spaces. We need help from hanging student’s art or tackling bigger projects like a design of a common area space (think like a living room) in our last classroom that needs a make-over. There is an immediate need—to help hand black-out curtains (by Sept 9). I’m in! Sign me up!
Outdoor Courtyard Designer—we are looking for someone who is creative and has a vision. We would like to create an outdoor classroom for our students. Ideally this person is someone who loves design, is handy, and delights in creating an environment for students to spend more time outside. Plans have to be approved by St. Mark offices and $1,000 is the budget. I’m in! Sign me up!
Garden Committee Member—we are looking for 2 to 3 parents who have a green thumb (or two, or three). We are working with Seeds STL to build a garden in our courtyard area. This would require attending scheduled meetings and seeing the job through to 3 phases of installment. I’m in! Sign me up!
Work Day Coordinator—we are looking for someone who can help us lead 2 work day projects at our school (one in the fall and one in the spring). We have voluntarily asked for ways to serve the parish. They have given us a few outside jobs (i.e. painting, mulching etc) that they would love helping hands. This person would communicate with the parish, help plan the day, communicate with RCA about needed items and execute the job. I’m in! Sign me up!
Development Team Member—RCA is looking for fellow parents who want to support the mission and vision of RCA by lending their financial expertise and wisdom. Someone who loves numbers and also is willing meet on a regular basis to help steward our resources well. This team member(s) would also participate in donor development and researching grants. I’m in! Sign me up!
Substitute Mentor—We are always looking for those parents who enjoy being in the classroom but can’t commit to a full year. You receive $150 for the day and lesson plans are given in advance. I’m in! Sign me up!
Handicraft helpers—we are looking for parents, grandparents or friends who like to sew/knit and be with children. We have selected projects that can be completed independently however we will ALWAYS take a helping hand to help cut, rethread needles, and keep track of projects. We are looking for helpers from 1:15-2:45 pm on Tuesdays. Note: You do not have to commit for every Tuesday. We do ask however you commit to a minimum of 2 weeks at a time. I’m in! Sign me up!
Church Staff Appreciation—We love being at St. Mark’s and we want to make sure we continue to forge strong partnerships. This person would help put together a pastoral appreciation gift in the month of November and during Lent. We heart Fr. Bob, Bridget, and Jessi who help run the offices. I’m in! Sign me up!
Enrichment Day Host—Kim Kuntz has organized wonderful opportunities for us to be together and delight in the love of learning. We are looking for someone who would like to help and support her hosting these events. The biggest need is being a Day-camp helper on October 28th and Over-night helper on Feb 27-28. I’m in! Sign me up!
what we are learning
-
They have planted seeds, made fall window art, and did leaf rubbings. They are continuing to study leaves and pumpkins will be next. They have also are practicing their pre-sewing skills with stringing beads and lacing cards.
-
Our first grade class is spent time learning how to make maps of their classroom and school during geography time. They too are working on their pre-sewing skills by working on lacing cards and stringing beads. Lastly, during art skills they learned about the color palette but making a color wheel flower.
Nature Study: changing leaves and Autumn Equinox

Our ladybugs have gone from the larvae stage to full grown ladybugs! Can you believe that even found a REAL ladybug larvae outside in our tree line area. What?! God is cool!
Nature Study: changing leaves, and Autumn Equinox

This class is exploring the wonder of bees by exploring the delightful book called Hive Detectives. God is truly amazing.

Ourselves and Plutarch are both part of “citizenship”. In Plutarch, this form is studying the life of Pompey this year. Ourselves is an allegorical book, written by Charlotte Mason herself, that helps lead us through the art and science of self-governance under the ultimate authority of God the King. It has been challenging but fruitful!
